Senior High
Symphonic Band meets every day for 1st trimester and every other day for 2nd and 3rd trimesters for a full block. During 1st trimester, emphasis is on preparation for marching band performances at home football games. In the remaining terms, students perform in several concerts, participate in the solo and ensemble festival and individual or small group lessons. Practice time outside of regular rehearsal time is vital for meeting obligations of the group and continued development on one's instrument. Students also participate in the Pep Band which performs at a number of home athletic events as well as in area parades. Students also perform at graduation.
Jazz Band is open to all Waupun Senior High students. The course meets before school twice a week throughout the school year. Students who take Jazz Band will be exposed to, explore and study various styles of music that may not be covered in the traditional band setting. Students involved in the Jazz Band will study improvisation techniques and have opportunities to solo with the group. The Jazz Band performs for various concerts and the solo and ensemble festival.
Warrior Blaskapelle is Waupun Senior High School's ethnic ensemble. The group specializes in playing polkas, waltzes and European marches. Students meet during the summer to prepare for a performance at the Waupun Volksfest breakfast. In addition the group also meets during the winter months for a performance at the solo and ensemble festival. Waupun is one of the few schools in Wisconsin to offer this unique type of performing ensemble.
Music Theory is open to all junior and senior music students. It meets every day for one trimester. Students enrolled in this class will be exposed to elements of music not covered in the traditional band or choir setting. This class is highly encouraged for those thinking about any type of career in music.
Independent Study - Senior Recital Seniors interested in performing a recital should speak individually with Mrs. Naegele and their school counselor. Expectations include learning music for a diverse program, creating a written program with program notes and securing an accompanist (if needed) and a place to perform.
Junior High
Junior High Band allows students to build upon the instrumental music skills they have acquired in 5th, 6th and (7th) grade. Band is a scheduled class that meets during the school day. Students also receive small group lessons each week. Band students are assessed on the following power standards: instrumental performance, reading and writing music and evaluating music. Junior High band students perform for the Homecoming and Memorial Day parades and are also given the opportunity to participate in the solo and ensemble festival.
Junior High Jazz Band is open to any student enrolled in the band program. It meets Fridays before school. Students will be exposed to, explore and study various styles of music that may not be covered in the traditional band setting. Students will also learn how to improvise. The Junior High Jazz Band performs for two concerts during the school year.
